You might like to look into the MillStone brand, Vishy. Cole & Mason is another brand that was originally founded in the UK, but I don’t believe their products are manufactured there today.

I’m sorry but I haven’t been able to track down this exact product for you, Kristie! However, there are two sets with a similar look that I can recommend. Cole and Mason have a set available via Wayfair that resembles the style you’re referencing very closely, and there’s another set available via Amazon with a “viewing window” that is a bit smaller. The clear portions of both of these are acrylic rather than glass. Hope this helps you to find what you’re looking for!

When used as a finishing salt, large flakes do add a bit of crunchy texture. And using a grinder can give the use control over how fine or coarse they want the salt to be.

So why do people want to grind salt?

I finally went for an upgrade & bought a Davis & Waddell matching set with the ceramic grinding mechanism to compliment the kitchen. The Salt mill lasted only a year and a half before the ceramic bit cracked.. I’m trying to see if I can repair or replace the ceramic bits and that’s how I found this site & forum.
Anyone know, or does the bin win ?

I have been noodling with wanting to use a mill/grinder to grind other spices – cumin, coriander, fenugreek seeds, and cardamom.

These spices are common in Indian cooking. Sometimes a recipe calls for dry-roasted, and then ground spices. I was thinking I could dry roast them, let them cool, and then load them up in a grinder to use as required.

A few related questions:

1. Which would be a better fit – pepper grinder or salt grinder (for the spices above)?
2. I use cardamom sparingly. I tend to store it in the refrigerator when not in use. How would it be if I store the grinder itself in the fridge (with cardamom in it)?
3. I would like to have these spices as a fine powder when I use the mill/grinder. Any suggestions?

The OXO Good Grips grinders are an excellent set that dispenses from the top, and refills from the bottom. I actually have these myself!

I just made some updates to our review, to note these features in more detail. Thanks for reading, and good luck in your search!

We had an inexpensive set that dispensed from the top and refilled from the bottom. Anybody aware of a manufacturer of that design?
